Requirements of the joint degree and mobility:

Remark that the ESRs listed above are double-degree PhD fellowships of the CHAMELEON network supported by a mobility program, and as such comes with a number of specific conditions, including:

You cannot have resided (i.e. worked or studied) in the country of the main university (e.g. UCPH for ESR1) for more than 12 months during the latest 3 years prior to the start of the fellowship (but there is no requirement on the citizenship of the applicant; applicants from all countries in the world are welcomed, and there is no requirement about your association to the country of the secondment university, e.g. UStA for ESR1).

All ESRs start on September 1, 2020 (or soon thereafter), and your degree will be awarded after the end of your stay at both the main and secondment university. The defence will usually take place at the main university, but national or local rules may require that some of the PhDs are defended at both universities.

The length of the individual fellowships are between 3 and 4 years, as listed above. The first 3 years are paid according to the EU rules and salary, while the remaining time is paid according to the rules of the individual countries and universities.

The fellows (and their supervisors) benefit from the collaborative effort of the whole network, which include common workshops and meetings. The cost of participation in these activities (including travelling and accommodation) is paid by the network, and your participation is mandatory.

The salaries during the EU funded period of the fellowships are in line with the EC’s MSCA Work Programme (July 2019) (p 92) and are dependent on the country where hosted. These monthly rates must firstly be reduced by the Host institutions’ social costs and are generally higher than the nationally funded part of the fellowship. The EU funded part of the fellowships comes with Mobility Allowance and if applicable, Family Allowance for any dependants (family is defined as persons linked to the researcher by (i) marriage or (ii) a relationship with equivalent status to marriage recognised by the legislation of the country or region with this relationship was formalised or (iii) dependent children who are actually being maintained by the researcher.

You can apply for a maximum of 3 of the 15 ESRs listed above. The applications for each of the ESRs will be evaluated according to EU rules as well as local rules at the involved universities.

The applicant must have obtained the degree (usually a master of science degree) that allows entering a PhD programme no more than 4 years prior to the recruitment date, and cannot already have obtained a PhD degree from elsewhere.
